"For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men." - Titus 2:11

How to Have a Personal Relationship with God

Who am I? Where did I come from? Where am I going?

Have you come to a point in your life where do you know for sure where you are going after you die?

If God would ask you, "Why will I let you enter heaven?" What would you say?

These questions are beyond man's capacity and can only be answered by going back to God and having a personal relationship with Him.

As Blaise Pascal, a great mathematician, physicist and philosopher, once said, "In every heart of a man, there is a God-shaped vacuum which no created being could feel except God the Creator made known through Christ Jesus."

How to Have a Personal Relationship with God

The following principles will help us discover how to know God personally and His plan of for our life.

1 GOD LOVES YOU AND HAS A WONDERFUL PLAN FOR YOUR LIFE.

God loves us and offers us eternal life.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

God’s plan is for us to have an abundant (meaningful) life.
"I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full" (John 10:10b).

2 MAN IS SINFUL AND SEPARATED FROM GOD.

...Therefore we cannot know God personally and His plan for our life.

All of us are sinful while God is holy.
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).

3 MAN'S SIN LEADS TO DEATH.

The penalty for our sin is death.
"For the wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23a).

4 MAN CANNOT REACH GOD AND THE ABUNDANT LIFE THROUGH HIS OWN EFFORT.

We cannot save ourselves through our own effort.
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9).

5 GOD REACHED OUT FOR MAN BY SENDING HIS SON, JESUS CHRIST, TO DIE FOR OUR SINS.

...Through Him we can know God personally and His plan for our life.

Christ died for our sins to save us.
"For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God." (1 Peter 3:18).

Christ conquered death by rising from the dead.
"For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures." (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)

Christ is our only way to God.
"Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6).

6 YOU MUST RECEIVE JESUS CHRIST AS YOUR LORD AND SAVIOR.

...Then we can know God personally and His plan for our life.

We must receive Christ.
"Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God" (John 1:12).

We receive Christ through faith.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

We receive Christ by repenting from our sins.
"Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord." (Acts 3:19)

We receive Christ by personal invitation.
"Here I am [Jesus Christ]! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20).

You can invite Christ right now to be the Lord and Savior of your life.

The following is a suggested prayer of commitment:

"Lord Jesus, I need You. I admit that I am a sinner and I cannot save my self. You died on the cross for my sins. With your help, I turn away from my sins. I put my faith in You, and receive You into my life as my Lord and Savior. Thank You for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Amen."

Now that you received Christ, God has done wonderful things in your life.

God has given you eternal life.
"And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life" (1 John 5:11-13).
